She was a daughter of David & Dorothy "Dolly" Evans Toothman. She was born in Sand Creek Township, Decatur County, Indiana.
She was the 4th and last wife of William Leazenby Alkire and they married 22 July 1864 in White County, Indiana. The ground was cold and hard the day she was buried and they had to bury her at the very southwest corner of the cemetery next to one of her twin sons that died in 1901, Robert Alkire.
When her husband died in 1914, the ground was so wet and muddy all around the county from the early spring rains, that they had to take him to Oak Hill Cemetery east of town. Her first name was spelled "ERIE" on David Emery Alkire's death certificate, but on the Indiana marriage records and several
census records, it is spelled "ARY."
Bates County Democrat, Butler, MO, Thursday, Dec. 29, 1904 - "Mrs. Amanda Alkire died at her home sought of Butler on Monday of last week after a very brief illness with pneumonia. She leaves a husband and children to mourn the loss of wife and mother."

ADDED NOTE: It's interesting to note that' Ary Ann 'was actually born in 1848 and not 1846, according to her mother 'Dolly' EVANS - Toothman in the 1850 US Census, her brother was born in 1846...again, according to his mother Dolly Toothman.
