Glenda Arlene (Jones) Cooper 1945 - 2012
Glenda Arlene (Jones) Cooper was born July 24, 1945, in Hayden to Albert L. "Pal" Jones and M. Louise Reed.
She was raised in Craig and graduated from MCHS. She earned an Associate of Science with a Dental Hygiene emphasis from Rangely College in the program's third graduating class.
She married Warren J. "Butch" Cooper on June 25, 1966, in Craig. They were blessed with three children she dearly loved.
In later years, she was blessed with four grandkids to adore. The support and unconditional love she gave them all throughout her life and to the very end was her greatest gift.
She worked as a Dental Hygienist before starting a family and then again for a few years after her two oldest children were in school. After her youngest child started school, she changed careers and worked at the Moffat County Treasurer's office for 13 years.
She then transferred to the Museum of Northwest Colorado as Assistant Director and was able to pursue her interest in local history until her retirement in 1999 after the loss of her youngest son, Nate. She was active on the Museum board until her death.
She took up genealogy in a joint effort to map out family history with her mother. She used those skills to trace family lines in every possible direction and to help others do the same.
She thoroughly enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing – times with her family around a campfire were her most content. She took it upon herself to make sure her children and grandchildren learned to be good swimmers, she encouraged participation in swim team, and was there to root them on at meets.
She was passionate about democracy and being involved in government — that she had the ability to influence the future of America in the direction she believed would be best for her children and grandchildren. She believed in the "American Dream," the freedom we can all have if everyone does their part by taking responsibility for themselves and working hard to make their own dreams a reality.
Her last wish was to live long enough to vote against Obama, and, thanks to Colorado voting laws, she was able to do so.
She clung to life until the day her ballot was available. She voted that day, and passed away that night, after she knew her ballot was safely locked away in the Clerk's ballot box.
She was preceded in death by son Nathan C. Cooper, her parents, mother-in-law Josephine Hall, step-father-in-law Tom Hall, father-in-law Donald V. Cooper, and treasured uncle Leonard Forbes.
She is survived by husband Warren Cooper; daughter Chris Singleton; son Mathew (Kristine) Cooper; grandchildren Natelyn Selene Singleton, Nathan B. Cooper, Anna L. Cooper and Matthew W.J. Cooper; brother Alvin (Linda) Jones, of Meeker; and nephews Kurt Clow, Vaughn Jones and Donald Jones.
Glenda lost her life to pancreatic cancer on Oct. 8, 2012, having been diagnosed with the disease in late August. She faced death with grace and strength to show her family "dying isn't hard (it's living that's hard)".
Cremation has taken place. At her request, there will be no services.
