Evan A. Gagnon passed away in Beaver Dam, on Nov. 1, 2012, due to complications of pneumonia.
Evan was born Jan. 28, 1927, to Adeline (Taddy) and Martin Gagnon in the Fisherman's Beach area of Two Rivers, Wis.
He attended St. Luke's Parochial School and Washington High School in Two Rivers.
Evan was a 9-time letter winner, and played on championship teams in football, track and swimming.
Evan served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-47, and sang in the Great Lakes Naval Service Choir.
Primarily stationed in California, he played football and track on the San Diego Naval Team.
Evan attended Oshkosh State University from 1948-1951, majoring in history, biology, and physical education.
He lettered in track and football, captained the 1951 track team, and twice held the State University shot put championship.
In 1960, he received his master's degree in history and education from UW-Madison.
He later served as a Big Ten track meet official for 10 years.
Evan married his college sweetheart, Audrey Taylor, on Dec. 30, 1950.
He initially taught and coached sports at Campbellsport High School.
In 1954, he moved to Beaver Dam, where he taught (mostly history) for 33 years.
He coached football and track for 18 years.
Evan coached Little Ten Football championship teams (including 2 consecutive championships) with Henry Derleth.
In 1969, Evan authored the award-winning Neshotah, a history of the Two Rivers area.
Evan's interests included ice fishing, sailing, swimming, oil painting, and participation in the Lion's Club.
Also, he was a loyal and optimistic fan of the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers.
He and Audrey enjoyed numerous trips to New Orleans.
