James Ingram, Sr. Cemetery
Patrick County, Virginia, USA
This cemetery is in an extremely remote area and is quite difficult to get to. The GPS coordinates are 36.84314, -80.09595. Frankly there are no good directions on foot. The easiest way to get to this cemetery is to launch a boat at the Ryans Branch boat dock in the Union Bridge area and travel to this cemetery via water. However, that is risky because you would have to anchor your boat to the land some way and also the lake is VERY deep in that particular area. Once you were able to get out of the book, the mountain is very steep from the lake to the summit.
From Fairy Stone Park Highway (Old Route 57), turn on Fairy Stone Lake Drive. Go about one mile and you will take the second state road to the left, which is Union Bridge Road. You will go perhaps six or seven miles to Union Primitive Baptist Church. Take a right onto Union Church Road. On Union Church Road, you will go in a curve to the right and there is a little gate there which leads to private property which you would need to get permission, but the landowner is fantastic. Just stay on that path until you crossover onto the United States Corps of Engineers property around the location of the Thomas Shelton Cemetery. Upon entering their property, you are on your own as you must turn northwest through the forest and go about .4 miles. However that is a VERY tough .4 miles as it will require you to scale at least two steep mountains of about 1200 feet in elevation as well as crossing two creeks. There is no path to this cemetery. Due to the remote location, few people have ever been to this cemetery. The terrain is steep and treacherous.
