On the territory of the cemetery there is a chapel built at the end of the 19th century and consecrated in honor of St. Apostles Peter and Paul. The red brick building with one dome is located at the gates of the Old Russian cemetery. The chapel was recently restored by YSPU student team.
The poet Marina Tsvetaeva, who lived in Yelabush for the last two weeks of her life, is buried at the Peter and Paul Cemetery. The exact coordinates of her grave are not known for certain. For this reason, a symbolic cenotaph monument was erected in a place of honor at the southern entrance to the cemetery. In 1960, Tsvetaeva's daughter Anastasia Ivanovna erected a memorial cross at this place, and 10 years later the Writers' Union opened a granite monument, which became a place of pilgrimage for lovers of literature and history. Many great Russian poets have visited here. Participants of the International Tsvetaevsky Readings gather at the monument once every two years, and every year on Marina Ivanovna's memorial day, meetings of admirers of her talent are held.
In 1943-1948. in Yelabuga there was a labor camp for prisoners of war. Many of them are buried on the territory of the Peter and Paul cemetery, as well as directly next to it. About 80 Japanese and 600 German prisoners of war are buried in mass graves. Their memory is immortalized by a large cross and a stele.
Prisoners of war lived in Yelabuga before - during the First World War. By this time, there are two burials at the Starorussky cemetery, discovered by the staff of the Yelabuga Museum quite recently: the graves of two Hungarian and two German fighters. There are several hypotheses regarding the possible history of these graves, none of which has yet been confirmed.
