John was born on 23/02/1923 in Bancroft, Hasting County, Ontario, Canada.
His parents were Harry Wallace McCaw (06/06/1902 - 20/07/1977, aged 75) and Marjorie Allice (nee Fairfield) McCaw (06/11/1902 - 1973, aged 70-71), of 78, Queen Street, Belleville, Ontario, Canada. John was served with the RCAF in WWII and lost his life when his plane, Stirling BK716 218 Squadron crashed into the IJsselmeer near Marken, Noord-Holland ......

Takeoff at 21:30 hrs for a bombing operation against Berlin in Germany.

Homeward-bound, the aircraft was intercepted and shot down by the night fighter crew of Leutnant Werner Rapp & Unteroffizier Hans Ortmann of the 7./NJG 1, who had taken off from Deelen airfield at 03:30 hrs for a patrol in 'Raum Hase', in Bf 110 G-4 G9+CR.
All seven crew members are missing in action and are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial:
